Arizona duplicate / replacement title overview

Arizona has largely moved to electronic titles (e‑titles). When a paper title is lost or damaged and a replacement is needed, the owner of record requests a duplicate through AZ MVD Now or by using the Title and Registration Application and checking the replacement box.

  1. Confirm the vehicle is titled in Arizona and that you are dealing with the titled owner or an authorized agent.
  2. Have the owner sign into their AZ MVD Now account and use the Title Replacement service, or complete a Title and Registration Application noting that a replacement is requested.
  3. The current fee for a replacement paper title is typically $4.
  4. Mail-in requests go to the Phoenix MVD post office box listed on the ADOT site; online requests are processed through AZ MVD Now and mailed to the address of record.
  5. Explain that owner name, legal status, and lienholder information cannot be changed on a simple duplicate; those changes require a separate title action.

Because Arizona uses e‑titles, dealers should verify title status in AZ MVD Now early in the process, especially for trades coming from private sellers who may no longer have any paper in hand.
