Arkansas replacement titles are handled by the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) – Office of Motor Vehicle. Residents can request a replacement online through the MyDMV portal or at any state revenue office.

Confirm the vehicle is titled in Arkansas and identify the titled owner and any lienholders.
Have the owner complete a replacement title application (available through DFA forms) or walk them through the online MyDMV request.
Replacement titles can be requested at local state revenue offices; DFA notes that processing can take several weeks before the new title arrives by mail.
Verify that the mailing address on file is correct so the duplicate doesn’t get sent to a prior address or lienholder unexpectedly.

Arkansas temporary buyer’s tags

Arkansas uses temporary preprinted paper buyer’s tags for dealer sales instead of generic hand-written temp tags. These tags are tightly regulated.

The temporary paper buyer’s tag is valid until the earlier of:
- The date the vehicle is registered, or
- The 30th day after the date of purchase.
State rules and statutes limit issuance to one buyer’s tag per sale, and dealers cannot repeatedly roll tags for the same buyer.
Recent changes (Act 41) extended the time frame for registration from 30 to 60 days and aligned the temp tag rules, but dealers still need to treat 30 days as the operative window for the buyer’s tag unless DFA guidance says otherwise.

Make sure your F&I and title teams link the buyer’s tag number, expiration date, and deal number in your DMS so you can prove compliance if DFA audits your temp tag usage.
