Georgia replacement title basics

In Georgia, titles are administered by the Georgia Department of Revenue – Motor Vehicle Division / Department of Driver Services. When a Georgia title is lost or destroyed, the titled owner can request a replacement through their County Tag Office using the state's title/tag application.

Dealer workflow – lost Georgia title

1. Confirm the vehicle is titled in Georgia and identify the titled owner and any recorded lienholder.
2. Have the owner complete the current MV‑1 Title/Tag Application and indicate that a replacement title is requested.
3. Gather any lien release or authorization if a lien remains on record and the lender must consent to a replacement.
4. Submit the application, supporting documents, and required fee through the buyer's County Tag Office.
5. Track the request; don't retail-deliver a "no title" unit based solely on a promise that a replacement will arrive.
