Mississippi duplicate title overview

Mississippi replacement or duplicate titles are handled by the Department of Revenue (DOR). The core form is Form 78-006 – Application for Replacement Certificate of Title, with an optional fast-track version on Form 78-026 if the owner wants quicker turnaround.

  1. Confirm that the vehicle was last titled in Mississippi and identify any active lienholders.
  2. Have the titled owner complete Form 78-006 and mail it to the address on the form with the standard fee.
  3. If the owner needs a quicker turnaround, walk them through the Fast Track Replacement option on Form 78-026, which carries a higher fee but is processed on an expedited basis.
  4. For dealer-owned units purchased at auction, clarify in writing whether the auction or your store is responsible for filing the duplicate request.
  5. Track all duplicate-title requests in your title log and do not promise fast delivery until DOR has actually issued the new certificate.

Train F&I to set expectations: the title is controlled by Mississippi DOR and delivery times can shift, especially if there are lien or address issues in the record.
